What's Your Temp?

What’s the temperature in your home? If I were speaking of your heating system, you would be able to answer quickly. However, I am speaking of something more important. How hot for the Lord are you and your family?

Because of the increasing intensity of evil in this day and age, it is crucial that we know where we stand in this ongoing struggle to overcome the demonic forces confronting us. Consequently, we need to pass on to children our understanding and commitment to the Lord so they may be armed for the battle. Remember, they are especially vulnerable to the many influences in the world that can lead them astray.

What an awesome responsibility is placed on parents: “These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” (Deuteronomy 6:4)

What are we impressing on our children when we watch endless hours of TV, speak and act in a worldly manner or show lack of self control? It is no wonder children are turning to destructive behaviors. They are screaming inside for the discipline that comes from being trained in the ways of the Lord. “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)

If we are on fire for the Lord and the establishment of His kingdom here on earth, the children will be transformed by this fire which burns in our hearts and homes. As parents willing to sacrifice, we pass on to our children a burning love for the Lord, the kind of love that changes the world around us.
