We are well settled in our new “home.” Our place is called the “Penthouse” around here. We are up on roof level and have a nice balcony with a view of the Temple Mount and the Mount of Olives. I can even see the Temple Mount/Dome of the Rock out our bedroom window. It is really a quaint place, not perfect however.
Living here all the time reminds me of being on a retreat that never ends! In some ways, we enjoy the job, but it is very hard work, 24/7, even when we take a day off.
The hardest part about living here is that we have to walk to go grocery shopping and cart home what we buy. Therefore, we have to go food shopping every day or two and it takes a lot of time. In the Jewish market / Shuk, things are cheaper but you have to go from place to place to learn who has the best for less. It is a huge place and it’s not like you can write one check for everything. I think I am finally learning how to use their shekels and other money. I am also learning which vendors speak English and are nice to Americans.
The other thing we miss is TV, where we can get the news. We purchased TV’s but the outdoor antenna only receives the Hebrew only stations and Al-Jazeera, which is Arabic only . We have no idea what’s going on until we buy a paper, the Jerusalem Post, which isn’t economical on a regular basis. We feel good about being here and pray through the negatives. Thanks for all your prayers and support.
