"The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all of his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice." (John 10:3-4)
Is this any way to begin the study of the Hebrew language, sheep following the voice of the shepherd? Craziness, right?
Many months ago the Father placed a deep desire in the hearts of some sheep to learn Hebrew. Most of us had no idea why this desire was birthed in our spirits, it just was. Hearing about a lady who was willing to open her home and teach us Hebrew seemed too good to be true. Having a demanding job, not having the money for Hebrew lessons, and needing to find time for one more thing, were just some of the obstacles to receiving this blessing.
Despite the obstacles, it became clear that this sheep was to begin the study of Hebrew with a lovely lady in Georgia. I know that the Father loves this language. Little did any of us, who began this journey into the study of Hebrew, realize the great plans that our Father had for us as we gathered together to study.
Diane LaFlamme is the obedient watchman who opened her heart and home for the study of Hebrew. Praise the LORD for His provision and great love for the seeking sheep. As many of you may know, Diane is a bundle of enthusiasm and has an expertise for learning the language. Overwhelming was the feeling that came with the first meeting of the Hebrew class. New people, new language, a nice teacher but, was it possible to learn this ancient language? With the first class night, it became clear that this would be a time and place where God was to meet us in so many ways.
The classes became so much more than learning an ancient language. Relationships were formed. God is all about relationships and family. We became “mishpachah,” family. God made each of us “ahotee,” my sister, and taught us many things. Many nights class ended in mighty prayer times, worship of the Father, peace, deliverance, and the simple joy in sharing what God is doing in our lives.
If you ever have the opportunity to learn from Diane and her husband Ralph, take it. Your life will be touched deeply and you will be changed. For it is “Not by might, nor by power, but by Thy Spirit, says the Lord of Hosts.” That is the only way any of this is being accomplished. Praise Him!
