Yes, God Is On The Move!
by Michelle Roach

In my four-year tenure in juvenile corrections, I witnessed the Holy Spirit moving like wildfire.Michelle Roach

I often recall the scriptures in Isaiah 61:1-2 and in Luke 4:18, how the Spirit of God was upon Jesus to preach good tidings unto the meek, how God had sent Him to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of prisons to those that are bound. As I reflect on those scriptures, I see God moving upon His youth, showering His love upon His children, even in detention centers, whether in Florida, Georgia, or wherever, these centers are rising up.

I believe the detention centers are there to save our youth, to bring them to a place in their lives where God can speak to them. God is setting His ministers in these centers, whether they are directors, lawyers, supervisors, counselors or juvenile correctional officers. God can and will use whomever He pleases. For many reasons, our youth are brokenhearted, captive and bound, whether through their mistakes, or someone else’s mistakes or injustices. We have a charge to keep and it is our duty to help bring our youth around.

God is raising up His army and has a plan and purpose for our youth. It’s His will that no one should perish, but that all should come into knowledge of the truth.

God has not given up on our youth, as some would think. He loves them, even if they may have committed one of the seven deadly sins. He is ready to receive them in whatever state they are. God is openly saying to come to Him, all who are weary and burdened, and He will give them rest. Take His yoke upon you and learn from Him, for He is gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls, for His yoke is easy and His burden is light (Mt. 11:29-30).

God understands where the youth are in their lives and He is there to receive them. God understands their trials and shortcomings. So when you ask yourself or others if God is really moving upon our youth in detention centers, rest assured that He is. He is giving them a relationship with Him, changing meaningless, wearisome toil into spiritual productivity and purpose.

Yes, God is on the move with our youth and it’s like wildfire spreading faster, and faster amongst them.

(Currently, Michelle Roach is Residential Advisor at Angela’s House, a Georgia state facility for teenage prostitutes rescued from the streets of Atlanta.)
