Shofar Notes Musical Notes

The shofar is the most ancient of biblical instruments made from the horn of a Man blowing shofar“kosher” animal. Most notably used are the horns of rams and goats, and the horn of the Kudu antelope. The tribes of Israel used the shofar in times of battle, to stir the hearts of the people to repentance, and to worship the Lord God Jehovah.

Today the shofar is being sounded again; this time it is being heard all around the world. In an increasing number of Christian churches, stirred by God’s Holy presence, the use of the shofar is becoming an integral part of their praise and worship as well as their intercessory prayer services.

Reasons We Blow The Shofar:

  • To remember that Yeshua is King of kings and Lord of lords and we are to be obedient subjects.
  • To remember to worship God in spirit and in truth.
  • To remember our need to repent
  • To remember the faithfulness of God, a reminder of our covenant with God because of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
  • To remember the binding of Messiah Yeshua, our ultimate sacrifice.
  • To remember the shofar that accompanied the revelation of the giving of the Law on Mount Sinai, and that all Scripture is divinely inspired by God.
  • To remember the words of the prophets which are like a shofar which warn of danger.
  • To remember the battle alarm for war. “Near is the great day of the Lord, near and coming very quickly...a day of shofar and battle cry” (Zeph. 1:14-16). Messiah Yeshua is fighting for people to share His eternal destiny.
  • To remember the end of all warfare. The shofar was blown at the end of battle. It’s a reminder that our final victory is ahead.
  • To remember our resurrection that will take place at Messiah’s return when the shofar blows.
  • To remember the Jewish people’s restoration to the Land of Israel.
  • To remember that the sounding of the shofar is like a prayer that ascends to God’s throne saying, “O Lord, may the sound of our shofar ascend before Your throne. Remember Your covenants, forgive us, save us, and deliver us.”
